We are now allowing guest or anonymous postings. This is a feature that has been requested a few times but in the past, we have not had a satisfactory way of administering such a forum. Last time we tried this the site received some nasty, unsightly p*rn posts. Something that no one wants to log on and see! However, our new platform (well, it's several months now but it's still new and shiny to us) allows us this feature.

Members of the general public may post anonymously in the guest area. If you are a member of the site, but would still like to post a sensitive question, then you may logout and post your question anonymously.

This feature is for:
  • Members of the general public to ask questions regarding home education
  • Logged out members to ask sensitive questions
This feature is not for:
  • Site / moderator / member bashing
  • Religious topics
  • Gripes or pet peeves, etc

Please be aware that these posts will NOT show up automatically once submitted. They will be held for moderator approval. (That way, if there is anything nasty we are the ones who have to see it, not you) Not all posts will be published... only those at the discretion of the moderating team.

If this new feature is abused in any way, we have measures in place to deal with that - from banning the IP address to removing the feature all together.

This is a privileged feature and we trust that it will be used wisely and with discretion. What you post is your responsibility.

Susan,
will members' content(normal stuff, not direct answers to the guests' questions) be viewable by guests or will that remain our privelige?

Nice idea, I can see it having value.

Q: Will the 'signature' and other basic profile information be displayed publicly when a logged in member replies to a guest post?

Good questions! All valid. The best thing I can suggest is to try it out... or logout (gasp!) and see what you can see as a guest.

Nutshell: the info on the left hand side, under your avatar is viewable. The signature is not.

If you want to promote your site then have it under the avatar. If you are private, then have it in your signature.

But for your own peace of mind, logout and see what the general public can see.

I see this as an important feature as homeschooling gets more media attention, more recognition. we want to embrace people's questions and answer them honestly but with discretion, thus drawing them in and not turning them away.

Of course, if you see any bugs or things that I have overlooked, please let me know.
